Russell C. Grimm - Shelby Engineering

January 1, 2026

Special Thanks to Caleb K. !

These are the first photographs released from Russell's personal collection.
These photographs are of a 1967 mechanical fuel injected Shelby GT500. This engineering car was the first fuel injected Shelby. The Lucas system was deemed to cumbersome for production.

The fuel injection pump has individual fuel lines for each cylinder.

The throttle body looks like a carburetor, but it's not. Just below the steel, valve cover is the engine ID tag.

Here's a better view of that throttle body.

A little overexposed but this the right, wheel well. The fuel pump received the nickname the "bomb" due to it's appearance.

I am pretty sure I have identified the car, but will wait to reveal that research.

This series includes the 1967 GT500 photographic cars.
These pictures were taken at Shelby's LAX facility in the summer of 1967. This was before any production 1968 Shelbys were built.
The car has been identified as 67401F7A00463.

The white convertible was also a photographic car. The car was previously painted red.
These pictures were taken at Shelby's LAX facility in the summer of 1967.
The car has been identified as 67413C9A00139.

This photograph appears to be a 1967 dual quad 428 PI motor. Notice the "DSO" decal on the rear valve cover.
The hood has been removed. On the back of the photo it says "stove pipe and booster hose 4-1-67"

This appears to be a Mustang coupe with Marchal fog lamps and klik-pin hood. It is possible it's a California Special.
It's unknown why the photo was taken and when.

More photos from the Russell Grimm collection will be added in the April 1st update.
