A reader recently asked me if I had any additional information on this photograph that is part of the Downey Ford article.
The photo shows Carroll Shelby with the owner of Downey Ford. They are standing beside a white, 1968 Shelby.
The car has Marchal fog lamps.
This led me to contact one of the people who helped me write the original article. Jim suggested the car was not actually
a Downey Ford car and may have been part of a dealer introduction meeting.
That led me to search for other photographs and I found these...
I feel like these pictures are too similar to be a coincidence. Both City and Mel Burns Ford were also California dealerships.
I suspect there are other photographs with more California dealers...
... and the caption reads "...at a special showing in Los Angeles. The new Cobra series
will be on display at more than 100 Ford dealers beginning January 4. "
If you know anything about the west coast introduction of the 1968 Shelbys, I would really like to add that to this article.
My guess is this event happened in December, 1967.
