1969 Shelby Interiors

Fastback Interiors

Interior Code "3A or 3AA"

This interior code is for a black interior with a black carpet. It is the same as a Mach 1, with four, red inserts that are part of the carpet.

The black, knitted seats have a red stripe on the backrest.

Two different black dash pads were used. One dash pad was used for air conditioning and power vent cars. The second dash pad has no vents in the center. The woodgrain can be either a light, teak color or a darker walnut grain. The lower dash and steering column are painted charcoal black. The kick panels and A-pillars were black, molded plastic. The headliner is black as are the sunvisors.

A black Shelby console was used. The seatbelts were deluxe style and were black in color.

The door panels are the deluxe style with black vinyl and black carpet on the bottom. Speaker grilles, if used, are black.

The rear sail panels are black. All of the panels around the backseat area are also painted black.

Interior Code "3W or 3WA"

This interior code is for a white interior. The white interior uses a standard, black carpet. The standard carpet has one black, sewn in floor mat. Some cars may have had a black, Mach 1 style carpet. That carpet would have four, red inserts sewn in.

The white, knitted seats have no stripe on the backrest.

Two different black dash pads were used. One dash pad was used for all non air conditioned and power vent cars. The second dash pad has vents in the center for air conditioning and power vent cars. The woodgrain can be either a light, teak color or a darker walnut grain. The lower dash and steering column are painted charcoal black. The A-pillars were white, molded plastic. The kick panels are black plastic.

The black carpet continues on the fold down seat and the panels surrounding the trap door to the trunk.

The headliner is white as are the sunvisors.

A black Shelby console was used. The seatbelts were deluxe style and were black in color.

The door panels are the deluxe style with white vinyl and black carpet on the bottom. Speaker grilles, if used, are black.

The rear, sail panels are white. The panels around the backseat area are also white. The fastback trap door is black. The panels surrounding (touching) the trap door are painted black.

Interior Code "3DA"

A limited number of red interior cars were produced. I believe all these cars had the walnut style appliques. The carpets are red. They are the Mach 1 style with four sewn inserts. A few cars may have been built with standard red, Mustang carpets (one sewn insert).

The red, knitted seats have no stripe on the backrest.

The dash pad was red. One dash pad was used for all non air conditioned cars. A second dash pad has a vent in the center for air conditioning and power vent cars. The woodgrain was the darker walnut grain. I have not seen a red, interior Shelby with teak wood patterns. The lower dash and steering column are painted charcoal black. The lower dash is accented by red, plastic parts. The kick panels and A-pillars were red molded plastic.

The back panels are all red. The carpet on the fold down seat is also red. Interestingly, the roll bars covers remained black.

The headliner is red as are the sunvisors.

A black Shelby console was used, but I have seen a car with an all red console. The seatbelts were deluxe style and were black in color.

The door panels are the deluxe style with red vinyl and red carpet on the bottom. The speaker grilles, if used, are red.

The rear, sail panels are red. The panels around the backseat area are also red.

Convertible Interiors

Interior Code "FA or FAA"

The black convertible interior has black carpet with a single, black sewn insert.

The black, knitted seats have no stripe in the backrest. Originally, it was thought all black interior, convertibles would have the red stripes, but these were not used in great numbers.

The dash pad is black. The same dash was used for all non air conditioned and power vent cars. A second dash has vents in the center for air conditioning and power vent cars. The woodgrain was the lighter teak or darker walnut grain. The lower dash and steering column are painted charcoal black. The rear, interior panels are black. The kick panels and A-pillars were black molded plastic.

Interior Code "FW or FWA"

Additional Information:

Red interiors were not used on convertibles. The third letter in the interior code is referred to as a "deviation" code. That third letter indicates the type of grain used on the dash appliques.

Example: FW = Teak
FWA = Walnut

You may notice some cars have an extra set of interior lights behind the front seats. This was an early feature, that was phased out during production.

All cars came with the black vinyl steering wrap. That was supposed to be installed by the dealer.

1969 Shelbys did not come with factory installed floor mats (other than the inserts sewn-in to the carpet).

Standard carpets have one sewn in floor mat. The Mach 1 style carpet has four, inserts sewn into the carpet. 1969 carpets do not have the rubber under the accelerator pedal (sometimes called a toe pad).

The Mach 1 style carpets were not available for convertibles.

There is a lot of variation in carpets. If you have something that is different form the information present on this page, please share it with me.
