There were a total of five different transmissions used on 1969 Shelbys.
The GT500 4 speed "toploader" is warranty code "5"
This transmission has the identification "RUG-AE2" on the tag. This is located on the right side of the transmission when installed.
The GT500 automatic transmission is the Ford "C6".
It carries the transission code "PGB-AF1" and the warranty code "U".
This transmission has the special "R" servo.
These codes can also be found on the build sheets and warranty records of the cars.
For 1969 and 1970, three different transmissions were used on the Shelby GT350 models.
The four speed transmission, warranty code "6" is called a "close gear ratio" transmission.
This small block transmission has the identification "RUG-AG" on the tag.
The second four speed transmission carries warranty code "5". This transmission is referred
to as a "wide ratio" transmission. It carries different internal gears. This transmission option was not very popular.
This transmission has the identification "RUG-E3" on the tag.
The small block, automatic transmission is Ford's FMX transmission. The warranty code was "X".
This transmission has a large, rectanglular fluid pan and a heavy cast iron body and carries the code "PHB-H" on the tag.
